pic 9I found this sculpture by Hedi Xandt to be fascinating. Women are frequently portrayed as white, delicate, and beauteous in Greco-Roman art (even if they represent villainous characters), but this modern take offers a completely different perspective. Although the figure is based on those created in ancient times, the dark coloring and the bronze skeletal face create a image that is fearsome and hellish. I admire that the artist used a classical concept but added a dramatic twist that converts the ideal into a contrasting piece. I believe that historical values can be useful influences for creating art, but stylizing the piece unconventionally is an effective way to produce a show-stopper.
