Instructions for posting stills and video to the site:
For stills – you will create an “image gallery” – use the add media button to upload your images, then once you have them all, select “create gallery” and then check off all the images you want to include, click the ‘create gallery’ button, choose your settings – and you’re ready to go. It can look something like this:
For video we will use vimeo. You need to make a free vimeo account if you dont already have one. Go to vimeo.com and figure it out – its super easy. Once you have an account, go to “upload” and try to avoid all the annoying ways they will get you to try and upgrade to a pro account – its annoying to be honest. Upload your video, and then while its loading you can enter in a title and other info. You’ll see there are a few options “basic” “privacy” “add to” etc…
click on privacy, and then select “only people with a password can view this” – it will then ask you for a password and you will enter
sem2
this is important – we all need to use the same password if we want to be able to see each others work – so please do this!! Here is the annoying part – you now have to wait an hour for your video to be live. This is a real pain, and one of the ways they try to convince you to get a pro account – so we have to just be patient and plan accordingly. eventually it will load and then you can view the movie. IN the upper right hand corner of the video is a “share” button. Click on that and then choose the embed code, copy it, and paste it into your post. It should look like this:
Mummers Costume Prep from jesse goldstein on Vimeo.
If your video is very short vimeo might not like it. In that case, you have a backup option. Go to the “add media” button in wordpress (when you are making your post) and upload your short video to the media library. Then choose your video and insert into post. You’re not done yet…. wordpress will initially insert your video as a hyperlink – but thats not what we want. So you have to choose “text” mode as opposed to ‘visual’ where you will see this: “< a href="http://eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu/benediktsson2013/files/2013/02/VID00016.mp4">VID00016< / a >”
copy just the “http…” and change whats around it to this:
[v ideo mp4=http://link-to-your-video.mov] only without the space between the v and the i in video.
if you do it right it will look like this:
