The D Train runs through three of the five boroughs in New York City: Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx. One of the stops in southwest Brooklyn is 50th Street, located in a neighborhood known as Borough Park. Borough Park is roughly 200 blocks in size and bounded by Fort Hamilton Parkway to the west, 60th Street to the south, McDonald Avenue and Bay Parkway to the east, and McDonald Avenue to the north. Its population sits at an incredibly high 104,988 people, making it one of the most densely occupied areas in Brooklyn. According to David G. Greenfield, Borough Park is “home to one of the largest Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish populations in the United States.” Some people even call it the “the Jewish capital of the United States” and “kosher utopia.” Borough Park is described generally as a somewhat aging residential community, recognized by its small family businesses and short buildings, most of which were built before the 1940’s.
