The emergence and exultation of the Virgin of Guadalupe was pivotal to the catholic baptism of Mexico. To the natives, it was a sign that the Christian God had come to Mexico and sought out its people. Subsequently,the Virgin has come to be regarded as one of  their most popular national, cultural, and religious icons.
