This is a canoe made of cereal boxes found in the Museum of Art and Design. When I laid my eyes in this makeshift boat, I was so intrigued by it that nothing else in the rest of the exhibit seemed interesting to me. I certainly enjoyed the idea of making something out of recycled materials instead of chopping down a tree to use its wood. Deforestation is very harmful to our environment and this piece demonstrates that the alternatives to wood are endless.
This piece can be seen at the American Folk Art Museum. When I observed it, I would have never guessed what it was actually made of. I was admiring its design and bright colors and then I read the description and learned that the little circles are aluminum wrapped condoms. This amazed me as it proves that beautiful things can be made with what seems to be trash. Instead of going into our oceans and lakes, these condoms were put to good use by becoming art.
