Seminar 4: Shaping the Future of NYC
Museum of the City of New York

The Timescapes presentation at the Museum of the City was fantastic.  It was the perfect 2014 visual presentation: old photographs, panoramic screens, 3D rendering.  Most importantly, it presented the history of the City in a way that a Wikipedia entry couldn’t.  My favorite part of the exhibit was the old photographs.  Seeing Union Square in 1844 was pretty moving for someone living there in 2014.  It may seem a little cheesy, but those old images conjured up a feeling that by living in Manhattan, we are carrying the legacy of the city on our backs.  The Timescapes exhibit in 2114 will surely have photographs of our generation, and the students then will probably feel a similar sense of place.  I thought it was worthwhile as a New Yorker and I’d surely recommend it.
