Flushing

Flushing part of Northeastern Queens was founded in 1645.  Originally one of the first Dutch settlements on Long Island, Flushing is now one of the most diverse communities in the world boasting over 200 places of worship.  Over the years, Flushing has seen waves of various immigrant groups, which has often led to conflict and social tension.  Currently the East Asian population dominates the demographics of Flushing.  These immigrants are primarily from Mainland China, Taiwan, and Korea.  Along with these groups there is also a large population of Hispanics and Indians.  Despite the many different ethnic groups living in such close proximity, today Flushing remains extremely diverse with all different kinds of people coexisting in peace.
