Survival

In my scrapbook I tried to explain about surviving. The survival of cultures, of people, and of artifacts. One of the most heavily persecuted people were the Jewish People. I went and visited two Jewish Museums . At one, The Museum of Jewish Heritage, I was extremely intrigued by the garden of stones which really shows about survival on a day to day basis. By observing the garden on every day of the year you could see how it changes but in the end is always the same. At the second museum, The Jewish Museum, I enjoyed the overall idea of the exhibit which told the story of a people through stories from really people. Also I went to a meet the artist on Langston Hughes, this just portrayed the survival of poetry as well as by the poetry which had a lot to do with stereotypes and racism.

The Jewish Museum

I went to the Jewish Museum on 92nd street. The main display at this museum is to trace the survival of the Jewish people through out history using Jewish artifacts, such as Torahs and Menorahs. The museum has these artifacts donated with a story and by a combining all of the stories they create a picture of the Jewish history.

This is a display that showed off many different Menorah’s ( A jewish candellabra with seven branches used on the Jewish holliday of Chanukah)through out history. Each Menorah has been donated and is accompanied with a story. The most touching story I read was about a menorah that had been donated from a family who was hiding during the Holocaust.

This is a Torah (the Jewish word for the five books of the bible) that was taken from a main synogouge in Spain when Jews where forced out during the inquisition. This is just a small example of Jews being persecuted against and their ability to survive.
