Welcome to the Hip-Hop Takeover!
Born out of oppression and redirected anger into music, the black youth of the South Bronx brought to life a genre of music that will forever leave its mark on New York City. While DJs began to use techniques to rile up crowds with the revolutionary two turntables (begun by the legend DJ Kool Herc), others colored the city with spray cans, and made the ground shake with breaking– all of which collectively formed the culture that emerged: hip-hop.
