Website Analysis: In-class assignment

Preparing to Create the Seminar 2 Website

All Seminar 2 courses culminate in a student-created course website. Before you and your classmates create your own whole-class website we would like you to carefully examine other sites. Please read and evaluate the sites you are assigned with an eye towards creating your own. At the end of class we are going to ask each of you to propose an overarching theme for the course website.

Step one: Review the sites you have been assigned and answer the questions below.  One person in each group should write answers to the following questions. Be prepared to share your thoughts regarding the site in RED.

  1. Who made these sites and what is the topic or theme of each?
  2. What multimedia elements (e.g. video, photos, audio, etc.) can you identify on the sites?
  3. What are the different ways that information is organized in the sites and how easy are they to navigate?
  4. Based on how you all answered #3, what are other ways of organizing and navigating these sites?
  5. Write a bit about the intellectual rigor of the sites. Are you impressed by the level of analysis? Do you think the authors could have probed deeper?
  6. What do the sites do well and what can be improved?
  7. Final thoughts?

Step two: Share your group’s thoughts regarding the website you analyzed (the one in red print).

Step three: What idea do you have for the course website?
