The subway carries people everyday through the urban bricolage of New York City, connecting us to the neighborhoods and outdoor spaces that shape our identities. For a Macaulay Honors College class at CUNY Brooklyn College, we looked at how immigrants recreate places by exploring neighborhoods and parks all over the city. We began by learning about the Caribbean community and how they participate in shaping Brooklyn through events, activities and corresponding cultural enactments. A walking tour, photo essay projects, and study of parks helped us draw connections between the Caribbean community and other immigrant groups around our city.
