It’s REALLY Been Awhile

Posted in Things I Say | No Comments »

But thats ok, because blogging doesn’t have a time frame I suppose!

I spent the summer time doing a class and taking it easy, with a hefty amount of drawing in between! And I’m halfway through the fall semester now.

I would show you some new art work if I had anything beyond doodles, but alas I’m on a brief hiatus until I finish up my projects. In fact, I’m on hiatus from practically all social media, you know, because I can use a break from the constant ebb and flow of text posts and status updates.

I don’t put this on the same level as a Tumblr or a Twitter though, so

I also declared my major finally! I’m right on track. AND I just got my pegbar and light box, so hopefully I will get to start teaching myself 2d animation soon. I am very excited about this

Thats all for now I guess- I wil update with more art when I have the time to do some decent work!

Killers of the Studio

CRUNCH TIME

By that I mean it’s Finals Weeks- not week, weeks. Simply because I don’t have too many tests but I do have projects

As such, art has been slow- and summer isn’t exactly going to be lazing around. I have classes and I’ve schedules myself to learn a lot of things in the absence of an internship. I’m making my plate as full as possible.

I have been at least blessed in one way: MY favorite band is FINALLY releasing an album in June and I couldn’t be happier

The Studio Killers are an animated band, in the same vain as the famed Gorillaz. A use of 2d and 3d animation used around a colorful cast of characters, the singer being Cherry, and her bandmates Goldie Foxx and Dyna Mink. If you can imagine the success of the Gorillaz, then you can gage why I am so excited for this new band as well.

Their first hit was Ode to The Bouncer, which caught everyone’s attention with it’s catchy lyrics and trippy music video:

Me being who I am, there are a lot of things that I enjoy: kooky character design, animation, catchy music and obvious band themes, all of which was possessed by the Studio Killers.

They just recently came out with their new single, Jenny, which of course I had to a picture for:

If I had to set super specific goals for myself, one of them would be to one day animate a music video or music videos. Honestly, if I could WORK for the Studio Killers team, I might cry. Their music has been mymain creative drive as of late, what with all of this finals nonsense bogging my spirits down.

Expect more of them in the future as the singles seep in.

backgrounds are hard hhhhh

I think over the past few weeks I’ve found myself growing excited. I think I found a good major?? I used to be upset because I couldn’t afford ‘art school’ but you know, I’m glad I went the way I ddi when it comes to college. Because the art/cgi department at Lehamn looks si promising and amazing, and I talked to the head of the department. I expressed interest in doing a major in CGI there, as well as animation and he was very gun-ho about the idea

So I think that I’ll claim my major a lot sooner than I thought! In the excitement, I vow to practice as much as I can with all kinds of things to break out of the comfort zone

Gaia: Tackling the Planets

Posted in Things I Draw, Things I Say | No Comments »

Things I really like but rarely ever talk about:

  • space
  • galaxies
  • planets
  • stars
  • space
  • SPACE

Pretty much for the past few years, I’ve been trying to motivate myself to draw space stuff, beyond just silly aliens.

I kind of have a little personal project that I want to do: humanize/anthropomorphize the planets and moons in our solar system and do some illustrational work with that

So here’s the first one, and hopefully the incentive that will keep me going:

How thats for Earth?

I don’t know what I’ll do next- Mars or the gas Giants hmmm

Kanye West: Graduation

Posted in Things I Draw, Things I Say | No Comments »

goodmorning

This started as me fiddling around really late night and then it suddenly just became a homage to Kanye West and Takashi Murakami. So it goes I suppose.

I’ll never be able to decide on my favorite Kanye West album- but Graduation is definitely a contender for my number 1 spot. Anyone who has the album will recongnize the bear, but did you know that the video and the bear were designed by Mukarami? Sans Dropout Bear, I only recently dicovered his amazingly bizarre art at the MoMA, and when I connected two and two together I was like ‘yooo’

Sometimes messing around with people’s styles of art is fun because it sort of forces you to do things you wouldn’t normally do. Like, I don’t usually mess with color like so, so it was quite the feat, but I’m really happy with how this came out.

On that note, I hate to be THAT person, but I always felt like Kanye West was sort of underrated. I mean obviously he ISN’T in the sense that he is something of a house hold name. However, I think people have been more or less blinded by some of his actions over his actual success as an artist, and that has always bothered me (for many reasons)

His music has always been a favorite of mine, and I’m aware of his occasional slips into his egotistical persona, but for example, Kanye has been a big LGBT activist, and you almost never hear of that! Isn’t that a shame? Besides that, he has a certain style to him that I enjoy- I mean, look, his mascot was designed by Takashi Murakami, who also did stuff for Louis Vuitton and Givenchy- and his music in general has always been very well produced and his stories well told. I mean maybe it’s just my own bias, but I think Kanye is pretty great yeah!!!

Ignore my gushing pbt

I feel bad for abandoning this blog ah!

I never forgot about these E-Portfolios, I just wasn’t sure how I should use mine to be fairly honest!

But I think I know what I’ll do- I’ll use it as a secondary art blog and maybe a place to talk about issues and what not.

I don’t know, does that sound okay?
