The playlist below was the result of an experiment, to put together a playlist of videos about New York City as depicted, described, and/or imagined at various points since approximately 1900. Each video is an example of an outside source that you could analyze for your weekly blog posts. Moreover, each video offers a chance to analyze the city in the ways that Prof. Alonso described on the first day of class: observing, listening, and imagining what the city might look like by way of understanding New York as it was imagined/described/planned in the pat.
While watching the video: how is the city described? What words are used? Is New York City described from the perspective of an everyday person, a city leader, or tourist (or other)? Do you recognize the New York City – the experiences, inhabitants, and so forth – or does your New York seem totally different?
