When looking at the demographic data, we can see that the percentage of residents that are 65 or older living in Brighton Beach, West Brighton and Seagate-Coney Island are higher than many of the other communities. In Brighton Beach we can see that about 7,270 out of 30,771 people are 65 and older, which is 23.6% of the population in that area. In Seagate-Coney Island about 6,000 out of 30,992 people are 65 and older, which is about 19.4% of the population in Seagate. Finally, in West Brighton about 5,631 out of 15,959 people are 65 and older, which is about 35.3% of the population in West Brighton. We can see that the numbers and the percentages of people who are 65 and older living near the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue are higher than most of the other communities near the other train stations. The peninsula and its surrounding area is an ideal place to live after retirement. The community hosts many yearly events to entertain and attract tourists, the boardwalk and beach is a peaceful place to take a stroll in and aren’t far from the residential areas.

Let’s look at the data about the race of the residents that lived in Brighton Beach, West Brighton and Seagate-Coney Island. 79.6% of the residents of Brighton Beach are white, 43.2% of the residents of Seagate-Coney Island are white, and a whopping 97.2% of the residents of West Brighton are white. The dominant race in these 3 communities is the white race. Looking at The Newest New Yorkers and where New York City’s immigrants are living, we can see that the foreign-born Ukrainian population and foreign-born Russian population dominate Brighton Beach, West Brighton and Seagate-Coney Island. 41% of the foreign born population in Seagate-Coney Island are either Ukrainian or Russian. 76% of the foreign born population in West Brighton are either Ukrainian or Russian. 52% of the foreign born population in Brighton Beach are either Ukrainian or Russian. No other part of Brooklyn has percentages even close to the numbers we see here near Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue.
