ARGO

Iran has declared war. As the United States embassy is breached and attacked in Iran, 60 United States officials are taken hostage and probably killed while six of them manage to escape and go into hiding. Voted to be “the number one movie of the year “in 2012, Argo is a thrilling historical drama that not only retells but highlights a catastrophic time in American history.

Ben Affleck does not only Starr in but directs and procedures the movie with the help of Grammy Award winners George Clooney and Grant Heslov. Argo (2012) is originally based on The Master of Disguise
by Antonio J. Mendez and The Great Escape by Joshuah Bearman.it has made over two million dollars in box office so far not including any blue ray DVDs. It has been nominated for and won a Grammy for best picture and best movie of the year.  It is a brilliant attempt at the recreation of the time when Iranian activists attacked the American embassy at Iran on November 4, 1979. Iran is not yet aware that six United States officials are missing from the embassy and it’s the CIA’s mission to bring them back home safely before Iran realizes that they are in hiding. As the six officials hide in the Canadian ambassador’s house, the CIA finds themselves at a loss of ideas on how to get the escapees safely out of Iran. That is until the main character and brave heart of the movie Tony Mendez (Ben afleck), a United States CIA exfiltration specialist, proposes what seems to be a crazy idea which might be their only hope.

Inspired by the children’s show, Battle for Planet of the Apes, Tony Mendez decides to create a cover story for the escapees. Disguising them as six Canadian crew members of a new upcoming science fantasy film called ARGO; Tony hopes to get the escapees out in time. Tony actually begins meeting with the topnotch Los Angeles film producers to help him create the phony film also called ARGO; the producers introduce the fake film to the world by creating press material and advertisement all in hope to put the CIA’s plan into full effect.

Tony Mendez’s s strengths appear when the most difficult task arises – training the escapees to fully adjust into their new identities, gain their trust and most importantly bring them back home! As he first meets with the escapees, most of them disagree with the plan, convinced that it’s a lunatic idea that would only get them killed. At this point our main character knows that he cannot move on further until he gains their trust. As time runs out and the Iranians get more suspicious about the missing number of people, Tony Mendez knows he has to prove his dedication –fast.  Tony Mendez takes full action and we see a CIA expert literally use every ounce of his bravery, intellect, and skill. He lives with the escapees in the midst of hostile Iran and personally trains each individual to take on their new identity; He teaches them how to think, talk, and walk like Canadian film makers. All six accept that their lives lay in the hands of a dedicated, clever, wholehearted man and his crazy plan.

All seven of them do eventually make it out of Iran but the closer they get to escape the more unbearable the suspense! The building of such great suspense is possible because of the brilliant pace of events. We see, for example, at the same time the escapees are more confident in their plan and learn to use their new identities publicly in Iran, the Iranians start to obtain information about those who escaped and start searching for their identities. By the time our hero brings our escapees to the airport, Iran had put together the last piece of the puzzle and tries to hunt down the six escapees. Viewers are at literally at the edge of their seats at the last five minutes as its only a matter of who gets to their destination first- do the escapees get on the plane first and fly to freedom or do Iran activist get to the air port in time to stop them from leaving ever again?

Packed with suspense and drama it will entertain almost any audience if they are willing to give it a try. It is highly recommended for anyone who is passionate about history, enjoys an action packed story, and cares for a meaningful storyline. Footage of heavy violence and light foul language may make it inappropriate for younger children.
