BOOOOOOOM!
Art can be very inspirational and it was this special ability of art to inspire that influenced Vancouver based artist Jeff Hamada to create an art blog called Booooooom. Hamada launched Booooooom with the hope that it would get people to go out and be creative and this amazing site has definitely delivered. With about three million pageviews every month and a worldwide readership, Booooooom has been a tremendous success.
Booooooom celebrates an array of artistic creativity, including drawings, paintings, music, film, photography, design, and other miscellaneous categories. Anyone may submit art to this blog and a few of the most creative and interesting works are submitted on a monthly basis. The design of the site is fairly simple, with categories of art along the top of the page and various kinds of art on the rest of the page. There are very little advertisements on the page, the exception being a small section of the right-hand side of the page that is devoted to the sponsors of the site. The site also includes suggestions of other art blogs that the viewer may want to investigate. Although there are an abundance of pictures on the page, they never feel crowded together, allowing each work of art to shine on its own. The simple white and light brown color scheme of the site also add to the power of each piece of art, allowing the eyes to relax and take in the enormous amount of creativity on the blog with ease. This feeling of ease and comfort leads to the blog’s casual and informal feel.
This site does not discriminate when it comes to genre of art and that is reflected in the sheer number of posts on a variety of different art disciplines. The eclectic nature of the site is easily one of my favorite things about the site and is one of the main reasons that the site is so popular. There is literally something on Booooooom for everyone. However, there is also something to be said about the quality of the posts on this blog. Every piece of art displayed on this site is extremely well done and at times feature mind-boggling levels of creativity. As I moved from post to post, I often found myself shaking my head in amazement or laughing at how ingenious people can be. For example, one of my favorite things on the site is a remake of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. Although there is no song or dance, the animation is still amazingly creative because the entire animation was made out of Lego. I was absolutely stunned and delighted that someone could accomplish such a feat. Another wonderful post is that of Carl Krull’s scroll drawings inside of a moving car. It’s amazing to think that all this artist did was draw lines while a car was moving and the result of that effort would be several intricate and compelling works of art. Every bump along his road trip across the United States was incorporated into the drawing and just makes me look on with awe.
Booooooom is definitely one of my favorite blogs to visit. The large range of material on the site gives one a sensitivity and appreciation for all forms of art and reminds viewers of the sheer artistic brilliance people are capable of displaying. It is a sublime blog that I would recommend to you simply because I can guarantee you will spend a lot of time wandering from post to post, marveling each along the way.
