DIY Crayola Rainbow

DIY Crayola Rainbow

Anything that has a myriad of colors has always caught my eye. When I saw an example of this Crayola art at a local diner, I was eager to make my own piece. The brilliant colors perked my  spirits and left a smile on my face. After purchasing a canvas, a box of crayons, and a glue gun, I was set to go.

Materials:

  • Any size canvas (the bigger, the prettier the melted effect is)
  • A pack of 48 crayons
  • Hair dryer
  • Glue gun with glue sticks
  • Pencil for tracing
  • Sharpie
  • Cardboard scrap/Paper bag (as a work place)

Procedure:

1. Gather all the materials, and plug in the glue gun to heat it up.

2. Lay down the cardboard scrap or paper bags, and lay everything atop them.

3. Trace an outline of the design you want your crayons to imitate with your pencil LIGHTLY (you want to be able to erase it afterwards!).

4. Choose the colors you want and order them in the desired pattern.

5. Carefully glue the crayons with the tips facing the outline onto the canvas using the glue gun (but be quick or the glue will dry!).

6. Tilt the canvas upside down, and turn on the hair dryer to “high.”

7. Focus the hair dryer onto the ends of the crayons. Tilt the canvas as necessary (to achieve a certain pattern). Work your way from one crayon to the next. Make sure the extra drippings fall onto the cardboard scrap.

8. Allow the melted crayon wax to dry.

9. Pencil in a desired quote, and trace it with a sharpie.

10. Erase all pencil marks, and remove any webbing leftovers of the glue.

TADA! You’re done! Now, all you have left to do is hang it up on your bedroom wall for you to smile at every morning! 🙂
