Hana Food

Hana Food

If you’re out in Williamsburg in the middle of the night with the munchies, there’s a shop in the North Side that makes the heartiest sandwiches you would ever taste in your lifetime. Hana Food is a small 24-hour deli and grocery. It’s atmosphere is typical of that of a sandwich shop—quiet and casual. Delis and little shops such as this one are important in the lives of many New Yorkers. Everyone believes their own deli is the best one around, but as a non-native of Williamsburg, I could agree that this place is fantastic.

You could walk in at 3 am and find the employees working as diligently as they possibly can, making multiple sandwiches with amazing precision and care. But then again, 3 am – 4am would usually be the time hoards of people at the bar head out and seek late night snacks; it would be necessary for a business like this deli to be able to keep up with that kind of demand.

The price of the sandwiches range from $6.00 to around $10.00. This may be considered cheap for food that is as large and satisfying as what you find here. The assortment of breakfasts, wraps, and vegan sandwiches is very diverse and fulfilling. I appreciate that while their meaty sandwiches are rich and juicy, their vegetarian selections are well-prepared and usually made with fresh, organic ingredients. You could eat a different sandwich from Hana Shop everyday and never be disappointed. Every few weeks, they introduce a new, exotic meal that is almost always well-received by customers.

The menu itself is sure to give you a chuckle. With names like “Liar Liar” and “The Kanye West Interrupt” (my personal favorite), each sandwich stands out and is made more memorable than it may have been based of the taste alone.

The bodega section of the store, on the other hand, may not appeal as much as much as the sandwiches as it lacks variety. Your choice of produce and/or foodstuff may be difficult to find unless you’re looking for generic cereal, mint gum, and spaghetti. Although the selection of organic foods may be something to consider, many consider it to be pricey.

Hana Food is remarkable for its selection of mouth-watering sandwiches and its reliable service. In fact, the owner is in the process of opening a second location in Bushwick. As for grocery shopping, there is a Foodtown down the block that you can count on.
