The P.S. 1 Tottenville School, one of 45 elementary schools on Staten Island, is located on the south shore of the island. This public school serves five hundred and fifty five students ranging from pre-k to the fifth grade.  The school population is an accumulation of roughly 83% Caucasian, 13% Hispanic, 2% Asian, 1% Native American/ Alaskan, and 0.9% black students.  Girls and boys each account for 50% of the student population.

As you can see, the only discrepancy between the two populations is the smaller percentage of African American students in the school.

Despite the “C” in the Student Progress category, P.S. 001 is relatively above average.  The C can be a result of a maintenance of high grades.

P.S. 001 is high above both state and district levels in English Language performance.

In 2013, P.S. 001 Tottenville’s average score on the ELA State exam was 2.95.  This was higher than the average overall citywide score. Compared to other schools in the city serving students with similar characteristics, this score was similar.
