One quote that particularly stuck with me from the Orozco piece titled “Everything about assimilation” was “the history of the United States is in fundamental respects the history of immigration.” This quote signifies the importance of immigration and diversity in the United States and emphasizes the importance of all cultures in the heterogeneous population we call the United States. Orozco also highlights the importance of “immigrants” to the United States democracy by expressing that only they are capable of finding common ground amongst various ethnicities because of their bicultural experience. It is important to understand the contributions and integral roles heterogeneity plays in our society today.
