I was really shocked when I read Gabaccia’s “Food Fights and American Values.” I could not believe that American society actually rejected food from different cultures. I can’t think of any person I know who doesn’t like going to restaurants that serve ethnic foods. I think my favorite part about New York is that we have so many different choices when it comes to food. The fact that I can easily have Thai or Italian on any given night makes living here even better. I love the “culinary cultural pluralism” as Gabaccia calls it. Maybe it’s just because I like to eat, but I think food is the best method of unification because it brings everyone together and lets us exchange parts of our cultural backgrounds.
