When reading the two articles on Willets Point by Fernanda Santos and Dan Bilefsky it is obvious that Willet’s Point, Queens is in need of a lot of help. The problem that is being faced is that although many realize that it is in need of help not much is being done to solve the current problems it is facing. The place is home to many businesses that have been there for generations, people that have been working there for years, and many people that cannot afford to go anywhere else. Instead of the city coming to help this area that has slowly been allowed to get worse and worse. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg instead wants to tear down all the businesses and everything in Willet’s point to make room for luxury homes, mall, etc. The mayors solution to fixing this area is to get rid of the old and make way for the new, which is the general idea behind progress, but is not doing it in the interest of those already living there. The people there currently would not be able to afford the new homes being built, or even afford to live in that area, they would be forced out of their homes, and have no where to go. Rather than improve what is already there, and help those that are already struggling to get by, the real problem is being ignored.
