The envelopes near the St. George Ferry of Staten Island always appealed to me. They signify the loss that many New Yorkers suffered in the 9/11 attacks. Their position against the New York skyline commemorates the void that was left when the towers fell. On the envelopes, the names of all the people who passed away that day are engraved. The envelopes are a very abstract physical representation of the towers, slanted and curled, like a fleeting image of what once was. Many Staten Islanders pass by the envelopes everyday and take it as a reminder of the day they will never forgot.
