This residential building goes by the name of the “Pepto-Bismol House” for obvious reasons. I have lived around the corner from this visually loud building my whole life and have always speculated about its owner, who I have never seen. It is wedged between an original-looking corner brownstone and a freshly painted one in the same style. The pink paint splashes onto the concrete sidewalk suggesting an either unqualified or careless paint job, possibly done by the resident himself. If this is the case, he clearly wanted his home to be noticed, though not necessarily himself. Perhaps the house holds some significance because a special familial event occurred there. The building retains the original brownstone detailing that it once had in original stone. These include intricate swirls and spirals and floral/leaf patterns above and below the windows. Most of these details are unique to the each brownstone in Park Slope though many resemble each other.
