Little Italy

From 68th Street to 77th street, lies the Little Italy of Brooklyn. Italians from around the neighborhood gather to drink, chat and play cards together. How exactly did Bensonhurst become known as a ‘Little Italy’?

In the 1950s, thousands of immigrants from southern Italy came to set up new businesses, work with their family members and overall have a better life here.

Also, a festival called the ‘Festa di Santa Roselia‘ is held every single year. It was named after the patron Saint of Palermo an it takes place at 18th Avenue from 67th Street to 75th Street. There are stands for games and food to enjoy for 10 whole days. Apparently, it has been on the verge of cancellation this year because there is a decrease in the population of the community with old people’s children leaving the house to move away. The festival itself is very fun but if the trend continues on, there may be no festival anymore.
