On any given sunny day, Astoria Park’s lush green fields provide for sun tanning, a game of football, and the playful screams of children play tag on the way to get ice cream. The entire park is a total of 59.96 acres, which includes several bocce courts, an Italian form of bowling in a sense, six tennis courts, two playgrounds, a newly developed skatepark and a large track which attracts many runners. One of the most popular aspects of the park is the swimming pool, which was designed by Robert Moses. It was even used for qualifying events for the Summer Olympics in 1936 and 1964. Astoria Park also houses one endpoint of the Hell Gate Bridge.
