Questions About Diversity

 

If we were to assume that the close proximity of the two groups did encourage understanding between them, it would still be questionable whether the diversity is a positive force. The diversity that the schools, businesses, and tourism surrounding 59th street provide have a major drawback. The diversity of outside groups cloaks the racial and income divide that permeate the lives and opportunities for the black and hispanic residents, the students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and the minimum wage workers from the rest of the city.
