research strategies handout

Hi, all! So according to the syllabus, your term paper preview is due in two weeks, on March 26th.

And that preview, as you know from Prof. Bonastia’s recent post, should include (among other things) an annotated bibliography: in his words, “a list of 5-10 sources you have identified” that “include[s] a few sentences describing why you believe the source in question is useful for your paper topic.” What kinds of sources? Well, in addition to people you’ve spoken to, you’ll want “scholarly sources, as well as some music journalism.”

How, then, to find these sources? Well, here’s a handout with some strategies that have served me well over the years. As with all advice, remember that this is not exhaustive — but I do hope it helps get your research-gears turning.
