THE WEBSITE!

Okay, all, after a rollicking discussion in class today, we are on our way to a collaborative final project! Here are the groups:

Disco: Shimon, Ruby, Adrianna
Jazz: Sanam, Gurprit, Ann
Hip-hop: Mena, Destiny, Danitsa
Latin: Michael, Matthew, Lilo, Eve
Website: Levi, Janna, Daniel, Ahmed
Each group should try to meet soon, whether in person or virtually, to decide who is taking the lead on what tasks. Some things we know we’ll want for each section of the site:
  • Profiles of some people and places involved in your scene (i.e. you’re not doing a comprehensive history of a musical genre; you’re examining a social context within New York City’s history)
  • Some sounds from your scene: maybe clips of famous songs or performances, maybe tracks demonstrating key components of the style, maybe even portions of interviews with members of the scene
  • Some images of your scene: historical photographs or even videos if you can get them, present-day photographs or videos if you can get those.
  • Important dates relevant to your scene: what happened when and why does it matter?
You’ve got lots of resources, including but not limited to Tony Fletcher’s website and bibliography, CUNY+ and other library databases. (Have you checked out the subject guides for sociology and music?)
More questions, hit us up.
