About two weeks ago, I was watching a comedian (whose name I forgot) on YouTube. His act seemed kind of stale except for one anecdote that really stood out to me. He happened to be talking about riding the New York City Subways and he said, “you get on the C train and the announcer says ‘this is a C train, but we are NOT making C train stops. If you need a C train stop, then get the hell off of this train!'”
Now I didn’t burst out laughing or anything like that, but true or false, the comedian’s statement really stood out to me. Why? Well, just a week ago (on Saturday, September 22), I was visiting the New York City Transit Museum, and I needed to get on either the C train or the A train. A C train came along, so I got on, and the announcer immediately says something along the lines of “this is a C train, but we will be making D train stops for the next 5 stops. If you need a C train stop, take this train to blah blah blah and transfer to the blah blah blah train.” They weren’t exactly the words of the fictional announcer in the comedian’s act, but they were pretty darn close. That wasn’t the only mishap I had though; later, I’d find out that A trains were making F train stops and that F trains were making C train stops as I slowly managed to find my way back to the dorms.
Anyway, this weekend, the subways were at it again. For whatever reason, the C trains were running express from Canal Street to 59th Street and get this, the D trains were running local…on the A and C lines! I know that the MTA has a lot of construction going on, but it’s management and PR really needs to get the word out to commuters better because it’s seriously confusing and aggravating at times.
