Given a theme of our seminar I wanted to offer some different representations of the city through a mix of serious and humorous pieces as a way to think about the commonalities of New York City. Based on these limited examples, are there any common traits to someone being a “New Yorker”? Look to the authors’ consistent or recurring words, images, or experiences – in other words, how are New Yorkers represented? Are these forward-looking or backward-looking visions of New York?
