Religion and entrepreneurialism seem to be unrelated, however, both are integral aspects of every day life in this community. Both spiritual and material progress are very important for the West Indian residents of Brooklyn. Historically, West Indians are known for their fastidious business savvy and their religious fervor. This dynamic becomes jeopardized when a new demographic begins to integrate themselves into the community. Outside this close knitted community, gentrification and improvement is looked at positively. But for the inside members, these new stores and shops threaten their own business and lifestyle, especially when the new companies are not targeted for the long-time residents.
