Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association

This is one of the oldest organizations in Chinatown, dating back to 1883. Their goal is to serve the needs of Chinese Americans in New York City. They are instrumental in the assimilation of Chinese immigrants into American society. Some of the services they provide are:

  • Adult English classes at a low cost
  • Naturalization services, which help immigrants become citizens and register to vote
  • Free tax services, provided by volunteers from Baruch College
  • The New York Chinese School, the largest Chinese school system in the Eastern USA
  • Chinatown Day Care Center

There are 60 member associations of the CCBA. The president of the CCBA has always been referred to as the “Mayor of Chinatown” because of the important role that the organization holds in the community.
