The Church of the Transfiguration
The oldest Roman Catholic building in New York City is The Church of the Transfiguration, located at 25 Mott Street in Chinatown. Originally built in 1801 as an Episcopal church, the building was destroyed in a fire in 1815. It was later rebuilt and then sold to the Roman Catholic Church of Immigrants in 1853. Today, the congregation is mostly Chinese and services are conducted in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
