Files and Links for Partner Organizations

This page will update as we create new resources for 2024. There are older resources below as examples of what we have used in the past.

2024 RESOURCES

NEW! NYC Top 25 Nature Hunt -printable PowerPoint slides you can use for bingo or a scavenger hunt. There are 4 options in the file: Top 25 species (in general), Top 25 Plants, Top 25 Animals, and Top 25 Fungi. All of these records are from the place in iNaturalist called “New York City, NY, US town” and looking only at Research Grade April/May observations. You can replace the main image with the top 25 species in your park, as well. Here are some step by step instructions for creating that slide for yourself:

      1. In your browser (not the mobile app), go to Explore in iNaturalist and click the Filters button.
      2. Expand the Filters pop up by clicking “More filters” and type in the name of your park/county/location in the “Place” field. Click “Update Search”. Note: iNaturalist can filter the database if it recognizes your location as a place with a boundary. Do not use the Location field that is next to the Go button at the top (that only centers the map). You can also add the month filters here to get the species you’re more likely to see during CNC.
      3. Click the “Species” tab at the top of the results. This will bring you to a screen that has the species images as rows of five tiles. Adjust your screen resolution and/or zoom until you can get the desired number in the window. 25 species images fit nicely on a 8/5×11 inch piece of paper. Here’s what this looks like for NYC with the filters I mentioned at the top (replace the NYC filter with your location): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?month=4,5&place_id=674&quality_grade=research&subview=map&view=species
      4. Take a screenshot and save it to your computer. Right click on the image in the slide and choose “Change Picture”, then “From File” and use that screenshot you just saved for your nature hunt!

NEW! Links for help during CNC – We’ll have the hotline (262-228-8683) and email (citynaturechallengeNYC@gmail.com) running for people who run into issues and want some help, but there are a few other places you can send people:

      • CNC FAQ page – Global CNC has this page up to help people.
      • iNaturalist Forum: TBD – in years past there was a dedicated temporary category for CNC. I will link that here if it happens again this year. Remember that iNaturalist isn’t involved in running the CNC, but they do make accommodations to make sure everything is working properly during this time of heightened activity.

NEW! CNC 2024 Certificate of ParticipationTemplate links (this will make you your own copy that you can edit): in English | in Spanish. You’re welcome to add other logos, lines for more signatures, etc. – definitely adapt it to your needs
