From the presentation on the Jews, we know that Jews from the Eastern Europe, specifically Russian Jews, were not liked in the United States. Different values, traditions, history, and ideology alienated Jews from the American culture. However, it is interesting to note that the similar situation is present today, but against the Americans. Although not as hostile as in the past, the American (European, or Asian) foreigners are not welcomed in Russia. Because of stereotypes, the Western World is viewed as being arrogant, violent, racist, and ignorant group in Russia. The fear of becoming westernized, and losing cultural values, is the main reason why many Russians dislike foreigners. Not only Americans, but also people from ex-Soviet Union Republics are separated. Russians usually treat people who were their “fellow citizens” 40 years ago as being strangers, just because they belong to different nations. They use “chorniy” (meaning “black”, usually referred to Asians, who have a darker skin color than Slavs), “hohol” (a derogatory term used to describe a Ukrainian), “hamburger” (a term to describe Americans), and other offensive words to display hostility towards immigrants. As you can see, the reasons for discrimination against the Americans (by the Russians) is basically the same as those against Chinese/Jews (by the Americans), which is why I believe that it is false to label the Americans as “bad guys”.
