When Strong writes about the Draft Riots, he speaks out against slavery. It is not the most impressive anti-slavery rhetoric I have seen, but nevertheless, Strong calls for “terrible vengeance for these atrocities”. However, in his final diary entry, he writes about how he would not let women study law. He writes it as if he is helping them: “No woman shall degrade herself by practising law”. I found these two posts so interesting because in the first entry he defends the rights of people, while in the very next entry, Strong tries to limit the rights of others.
