Was it right for Radio Raheem to blast his music on someone else’s restaurant? Was it right for him to persist when asked with words to turn it off? Was it right for Sal to take out the baseball bat and destroy a radio that was property of someone else? Was it right for the police to step in harshly without understanding the situation? Was it right for them to continue to restrain someone who was struggling? Was it right for the community to take it out on Sal’s property when Sal wasn’t the police force? I think the answer to most of these is no, it is not right, but not necessarily evil because it is justified in their minds. But still wrong, in the way that there were better ways to deal with those situations. But I think the catastrophe was created by a bunch of wrong actions piled on top of each other—like they say, two wrongs don’t make a right, and for sure, dozens of wrongs will never make a right.
