Its literally been months since I last blogged. I’m so busy—hopping from one thing to the next, (loving every minute!) that I haven’t been sitting down to write these reflective pieces. This is mainly because most of the thinking I do happens on Shabbat, when I am actually prohibited to touch my cell phone, email, or any electronics. Additionally, on Shabbat I make a personal commitment to devote as much time as possible to meaningful face-to-face human relationships as possible (something that seems to be an imperative after last night’s viewing of We Live in Public. Watch this if you want to be terrified of our electronic lives). Shabbat is 24 hours of pure bliss; a reflective balance to what sometimes seems like a never-ending week.
Since we last connected, I’ve been reading, applying to graduate school, being a research assistant, working on my thesis, doing an independent study, taking a full courseload, organizing a food justice conference, facilitating protests, and more.
But just like I make time every day for prayer and Jewish text study, I also want to consistently think about and process the many things I’m doing. If that means blogging, then I’d like to make a pledge to blog more often. So, in advance, thanks for listening!
At the end of the week, I will be starting the JCPA Food Stamp Challenge, where I have pledged to try and live on the average allotment for food stamps each week, which is $31.50. This amounts to approximately a dollar a meal. Stay tuned for a lot of processing about that.
Wishing you a beautiful October full of new romances, pumpkin spice lattes, crunchy leaves, and crisp refreshing air. Ella and Louie can’t say it any better.
