In the Media

I wanted to bring to your attention a few news items about topics we’ve discussed in class.

The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced the theme for its upcoming exhibition: Catholicism. It looks sure to be a lightening rod for praise and criticism. It will reportedly be even bigger than the “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit.

And The Band’s Visit opened last week to mostly rave reviews. If you’re interested in the show’s composer, David Yazbek, check out this profile of him. He’s an interesting guy and his route to writing Broadway shows is detailed here and is not necessarily what you’d expect.

To follow up on our trip to the Metropolitan Opera, here is an article about a soprano currently singing the highest note ever sung onstage at the famed house. There’s a short clip of her singing the A (above High C) embedded in the article–take a listen.
