I found all the actors on IG

I enjoyed our whole experience of watching The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. Some of the highlights were being in such an intimate space, the loud sound effects, and the acting.

The intimate space was a first for me. I have never felt so close and included with the show. When the actors walked around the theater and looked us right in the eye, I was really able to feel the fear and terror they were conveying. One time, the lead looked me right in the eye and I started laughing because I’m immature. It was just so entertaining to feel how effective that was. Similarly, when the actors got up on the four corners of the theater and shouted back into the center, I was turning my head in all directions trying to follow the actors and that in itself was engaging and gripping. I also loved how resourceful the cast was. There weren’t many props or even actors but still everything came out clearly. During intermission, we also talked about how this wasn’t a very expensive play to run. For example, the “Heil Hitler” sound effects were probably found online, same with the gun sound effects.

These sound effects were super powerful. They exploded in my ears and really shook me. Even the actors and some points were shouting so vigorously. I’m glad they didn’t have to use a microphone or anything because we were able to very clearly hear the emotion in their voices.

Speaking of the actors, they were amazing. I even looked them up on Instagram after because I’m weird and thought they were so cool. I think Bryan mentioned how you could even see them spitting when they shouted so aggressively. I closely watched them move their entire bodies with the dramatic dialogue and they sold the roles so well.

My favorite part of the play was Arturo’s dramatic monologue, that started with him practicing his speech and then turned into the real deal in front of a crowd. I love how he started super goofy and turned violently serious. I think that’s what a lot of the play was like. Goofy at times and then scary. Anyways let’s do it again sometime that was a pretty dope experience 8)
