That guy who showed us the video was awesome

I loved the man who was showing us the video of Frank Stella. He was so passionate about the paintings. His enthusiasm about the wild abstract art and techniques that Stella used was inspiring. I took another walk around that gallery after the video finished and I had an entirely new appreciation for each piece.

That video also revealed something very cool to me. I had no idea how much time and patience was required for some of those works. I also appreciated how artists like Stella don’t always have the full picture of their work in mind before starting, but along the way make changes that they think of on the spot. The video showed Stella adding some lines to his piece randomly because he thought it’d complete the picture better. That resonated with me a lot because art always kinda seemed intimidating to me because I was worried you would have to visualize everything to begin with. I don’t know, the whole thing just seemed impossible to me. But truth is there’s a process to it and artists have liberty with their work. I enjoyed all the craziness in his prints.

The picture I attached shows my favorite Stella print. It looks like there’s a harp in the center and it’s producing music that is coming out like waves of bright colors. I feel at peace and calm when I see this piece. My eyes are drawn to the orange and blue things coming out of the center that almost look like musical notes being played by the harp.

Gallery hopping was a nice experience. I’d love to go out more often to these galleries and find more dope stuff. When I came back to campus I showed two of my friends the works that we saw and they enjoyed it as well. They wish they were there in person.

  1. I thought it was cool of you to share the art you saw with your friends! You seem to have found a new kind of appreciation for printmaking and abstract art and it’s very inspiring.

  2. Its always nice to see art with someone who can explain things to you. What;s especially cool about “that guy” is that he is the gallerist, Anders Walhstedt! #lucky
