Ginger Rogers herself was a fashionista, which was evident in her films. She often played a part in designing/choosing her costumes for many of her films, specifically the dance sequences. The most famous dress Ginger Rogers wore in any of her films is the ostrich feather dress that she wore in Top Hat (1935). This dress was much to the disliking of Fred Astaire who had to dance with a person who was shedding feathers all over the place with every step she took. Additionally, the film which we watched for this course, Roberta (1935), features a fashion show within the film. Although this was not typical of Astaire and Rogers’ films, it does introduce the notion of fashion in conjunction with Astaire and Rogers. Since there is no hard definition of what a fashion film actually is (only that it depicts fashion), I can only conclude that a great example of a fashion film would be a compilation/montage video of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ dance sequences. Even though it would have no narrative, context, or original content, this fashion film would depict the many fashions of Ginger Rogers throughout.
The best example of this type of video is shown below. It is a montage of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and Gene Kelly.
