The Rebel Sound at Macaulay

The commute from Staten Island to the city wasn’t too bad for me because I was able to pick up a cup of coffee on the way there so I didn’t fall asleep (sorry Lisa!), and eventually Janice, Eric and I made it to the Macaulay building. It seemed just like yesterday that we picked up our laptops in August there.

Coming into this, I was seriously expecting the worst. Seeing as the play was extremely difficult to get through, I thought that the live reading was going to be equally difficult. But in all honesty, as much as there were some parts that were hard to listen to, the actors that played each of the characters were handpicked so well and they fit my image of who they were just from reading the play on a Word Doc. The live reading lasted a little over an hour, and it ended to a round of applause from all of us. What I found the most surprising was the fact that for one of the actors, I think it was the man who played Bo, it was only their second time reading this script. If I’m not mistaken the word for it was reading it “cold”, and I was genuinely taken aback because the way he read it and the emotion that he put into the reading made it seem as if he had read it at least 5 times live. Overall, I commend the actors for reading and acting out such a difficult play.
