“MEANING OF LIFE”
‘ADAM AND EVE’ BY ALBTECHT DURER
I PICKED THIS BECAUSE IT REMINDED ME OF CHAPTER 3 OF ‘WAYS OF SEEING. IT TALKED ABOUT NUDITY IN WESTERN ART.
‘ALTER CLOCK’ BY BY HANS BUSHMAN
THIS PICTURE IS IN MY GALLERY BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT IS JUST A CLOCK, I THOUGHT OF TIME AND HOW IT DOESN’T STOP. I THINK OF THE TIME I HAVE SPENT HERE ON EARTH AND THE TIME I HAVE LEFT. MOMENTO MORI. TEN POINTS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
‘THE BOATMAN OF MORTEFONTAINE’ BY JEAN COROT
THIS PAINTING MAKES ME FEEL PEACEFUL AND SERENE. THE BOAT ALSO REMINDS ME OF BEING IN A PLACE FOR REST OR REFUGE. THIS PAINTING ALSO GIVES ME BOB ROSS VIBES, NOT IN THE WAY IT LOOKS BUT WHAT IS IN IT: THE RIVER, THE FOLIAGE.
‘THE CRUCIFIXION’ BY PIERO FRANCESCA
WHAT APPEALS TO ME ABOUT THIS PAINTING IS THE RELIGIOUS ASPECT. AS A DISCIPLE, THIS PAINTING HOLDS A LOT OF EMOTION AND MEANING.
‘A LION ATTACKING A HORSE’ BY GIOVANNI SUSINI
WHEN I LOOK AT PICTURE, I THINK OF THE PAIN AND STRUGGLING WE ENDURE IN LIFE. THE SCRATCH MARKS REMIND ME JUST HOW MUCH IT HURTS SOMETIMES. ALSO THE HORSES NECK LOOKS WEIRD.

I ADDED THIS PAINTING BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT JUST A SHIP, IT FEELS LIKE IT CARRIES MEANING. FOR ME, I FIND A SENSE OF ISOLATION AND BEING CUT OFF FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD. I ALSO THINK OF OUR FIRST SEMINAR OF HON121, WHEN WE ANALYZED A FEW PIECES OFART.

I SELECTED THIS PAINTING OF ANIMALS BECAUSE IT REMINDS ME OF THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO THE ZOO, THE CENTRAL PARK ZOO, AND I WAS BY MYSELF. THIS PAINTING REMINDS ME OF THE SPORADIC-NESS AND UNPREDICTABILITY IN LIFE BECAUSE THESE ANIMALS ARE JUST OUT HERE CHILLING UNSUPERVISED.

THIS PICTURE IS HERE BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY. IT’S JUST A PICTURE OF A CITY STREET, BUT UPSIDE DOWN. INTERESTING, HUH?
[NAME AND AUTHOR UNCLEAR]
I DON’T KNOW. I THOUGHT THIS WA KIND OF COOL, I LIKE IT. IT REMINDS ME OF SOMEWHERE LIKE WASHINGTON DC. AND A LITTLE OF THE PICURE THAT PAM DREW IN THE OFFICE.

THIS IS ANOTHER ONE I THOUGHT WAS REALLY WEIRD. LIKE, WHAT THE HECK IS THIS THING? I LOOKS HUMAN, BUT IT HAS A TAIL. AND WHAT IS IT DOING? SNEAKING AROUND THE MUSEUM?
Do you see a theme emerge from the pieces of art you selected? What would you call/title your “show?”
Thats a super interesting question. I think I would call it “Meaning of Life” because many of the pictures I added, I added because it made me think about the emotions we feel in life as human beings. Feelings (and reflections) on the past and the future, pain and struggle, being alone, being exposed, feelings of chaos, just to name some. And sometimes we feel our lives are turned upside down, or just plain wacky.
