We met the artist Jenny in our class and she shared some of her work with us, as well as her feelings and beliefs about art. Jenny has done a quarantine series during the pandemic and made rugs by crocheting old t-shirts she couldn’t donate. she uses her own technique called “Blind Contour of the Mind”, which involves painting without looking at the canvas, fully focusing on the subject or object. Many of her works are abstract and she hopes to achieve intimacy in her art. When asked about her beliefs on art, Jenny said she believes anything can be art. Art is “self contained and meditative”, and is based on the idea of personal growth and sensibilities as a human being. We should all give our own perspectives on the world around us according to Jenny, and I completely agree that without personal perspective the world would be a duller place.
