The way Jennie discussed herself as an artist is quite inspiring. She mentions how she is a multidisciplinary artist, and with that, she has a tremendous plethora of skills. Jennie worked extremely hard for the knowledge and techniques that she has developed, and she is worthy of using them to create something unique that makes sense to her. This idea is shown in her art because she genuinely tunes in to what she knows and feels. Jennie also talked about how music inspires her art in many ways and how she uses research to find more information about the symbols presented in her artwork. Jennie even takes the skills she learns from her job in bookkeeping and the way she implements that knowledge in her art business. It is evident that Jennie is exceptionally versatile and talented, and the wisdom she shared with us is extremely valuable.
Another important topic that Jenny talked about was supporting herself through a job separate from her art business. During my time at Laguardia, almost every one of my teachers had the perception that if dancing was the career you wanted to pursue, that it had to be your only path. If you believed in yourself as an artist, you were to put all of your time and passion into dance. However, in Jennie’s case, the fact that she has another source of income provides her a safety net. Therefore, she can devote the time to her art without having the pressure and stress of making money. Instead, she can focus on understanding her place in history as an artist rather than monetizing her art. Having that other job provides Jenny freedom wish I think it’s an important takeaway.
