This week we had a presentation by Amanda Hick who is a professional opera singer and professor. Her presentation was very engaging, informative, and enjoyable. When giving her presentation it was evident that she is passionate about her field of work and genuinely enjoys what she does, which is rare in a time where a lot of artists become commercialized and do things only for financial gain. Moreover, on top of being interested in her work, I was surprised to hear that she took risks and developed her own company and hired people to make some of her dreams come true. She said that she reached out to investors and venues in order to accomplish what she desired, and this is not something that I see other artists doing. I was impressed by her entrepreneurship and it is a perfect example that if someone wants something, they can achieve it. She said that while doing her performances she studied her parts and other parts to make sure she was well prepared, and this showed her dedication. Amanda embodies what dedication is and having a passion for art looks like. Lastly, I also enjoyed how she showed the importance of previous artists in history like Mozart. A lot of previous guests spoke about the significance of previous artists have but have never gone in depth like Amanda has and this was a new aspect that I enjoyed. Her attitude and personality was very welcoming and motivating which made it easier to be attentive. Overall, I enjoyed Amanda’s work/presentation and it was a pleasant experience.
