Prior to meeting Amanda Hick I had no interest in opera whatsoever. I never really understood it, meaning wise or in the literal sense. After the meeting, I wouldn’t say I quite understand it, but I’ve certainly learned a little more about it. Like I didn’t know the different kinds or really what went into it and that was partially because I wasn’t interested in learning it. I wasn’t really interested in learning it at the start of the meeting even, but then I heard how excited she was to talk about it. She was clearly really passionate about the topic and it was the kind of passion that draws people to listen. I found myself more interested in what she was saying than with most of the others despite having less interest in her art form than many of the others. I’m not quite interested in opera still, but learning about it and hearing from a person passionate about it was really fun.
