Amanda Hick’s talk was new. I never really thought about opera as it is, let alone the amount of talent you need. The thing I loved about Amanda’s time was that it showed me that modern art doesn’t just appear. No one just thought ‘I think I might sing now. Oh, I’ll call it opera!’ and that’s how it is. But most importantly, art doesn’t stay the same. Going through each stage of opera, the current was wildly different from the last and it made me wonder about other forms of art. How has sculpting changed since it’s very first creation? How has dance changed since its first expression? What about poetry? How was each style formed? Is a new style in the making as I type this? It inspires me to do my own research on the history and making of different art. And now I already know a bit more about opera.
